                  Amateur "Ham" Radio Club

KB3QVO Calling CQ ("Heritage Harbour Radio calling everyone.")

Shortcut to slideshow

Heritage Harbour has its own Amateur Radio Station with coverage on HF (High Frequency Band) and VHF (Very High Frequency Band). Although it is used mostly as a hobby station, it will break into emergency operations and assist the community by supplying communication with the County Emergency Operations Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Our station call sign is KB3QVO. At present there are 11 members.

Any resident of Heritage Harbour who has a valid Amateur Radio License is considered a member of the club, The Heritage Harbour Amateur Radio Society.

At the Lodge, the club has a G5RV antenna and a J Pole on the top of the rear of the building. Our transceivers are new and simple to operate. We also have a 2KW generator for emergency power.

Any resident who does not have a license and wishes to become a "ham" will be welcome. There is a booklet that allows self study; one may study and take practice tests on line, or one can attend Saturday classes at the Davidsonville Radio Club nearby. Morse code capability is no longer required. The basic Technician test is very easy.

The Club is a sub-group of the Emergency Preparedness Committee, who will assist in learning how to "hunker down" in place for several days if that becomes necessary.

Images of some of these activities may be seen in the slideshow, below.
